Project Divided is working to bring people of different political views and backgrounds to the table to have difficult conversations about politics.
Our Web Series will:
Initiate conversation on important issues. A major goal of our Web Series is to highlight people with different perspectives and backgrounds coming together to have important conversations about some of the most pressing, and contentious, issues of our day. We believe that by initiating this dialogue, we can begin to work together to solve these urgent problems.
Focus on what we can do as individuals. We hear from folks all the time that politics right now is overwhelming (and we couldn’t agree more). That is why our Web Series focuses on what we, as individuals, can do to make an impact in own lives and communities. Our objective is to emphasize the local level and show how people can—and are—making an impact in their daily lives.
Highlight that people don’t always fit their party’s platforms. When we initiate these conversations and look past initial labels, we can sometimes find commonalities in surprising places. While there are many forces that try to exploit our differences, we believe that most Americans have more in common than we may think.
Recognize that political differences are important. We shouldn’t brush over our differences. Talking to people we disagree with doesn’t mean that we need to only talk about non-controversial issues. In fact, we believe that opening up dialogue between conservatives and liberals is important so that we can discuss the most pressing issues of our day--from immigration to gun control/rights and climate change.
